ENGIE and Sunway Property partner to provide sustainable cooling solutions

KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): ENGIE Services Malaysia Sdn Bhd (ENGIE) and Sunway Property have partnered to set up a district cooling system at Sunway South Quay Commercial Precinct 2 (CP2).

The two parties have entered into a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) agreement through ENGIE-SUNWAY DCS Sdn Bhd (ENGIE-SUNWAY).

In a joint statement released Tuesday, July 26, Sunway Property said Sunway South Quay CP2 comprises 23- and 21-storey office buildings, a five-storey retail element and a 12-storey university block development.

The block includes Sunway University’s Performing Arts Centre, with LEED Gold and GreenRE certifications, representing nearly RM2 billion in gross development value.

According to ENGIE, the district cooling system offers the most energy-efficient solutions to cities and urban areas in Southeast Asia, as it significantly increases energy efficiency, allowing supply to be matched with demand.

“The project’s cooling solutions will help reduce operating costs, while effectively limiting carbon emissions, to the benefit of air quality, while continuing Malaysia’s sustainability journey, as contracted since. 25 years.

“The implementation of this cooling solution has a capacity of over 7,000 tons of refrigeration (RT) put in place, which will operate on the BOOT model for a greenfield mixed-use development,” he said.

The statement also noted that the partnership is expected to deliver a full end-to-end value proposition for District Cooling solutions, covering the engineering, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of such infrastructure, both for greenfield and brownfield urban development projects.
